Principal: Dr. Sohaib Chekima

Born in Albany NY and raised in Algeria and later spent six years in Malaysia before returning to Albany where I earned my BA in Sociology from University at Albany and I went on to continue my education and earned my PhD in International Business with few published papers in the field. I taught Arabic at University at Albany, Union college and Hudson Valley Community College. During my teaching experience I served as the faculty adviser to the Muslim Student Association at each institute. I strongly believe that our youth are the leaders of today and as adults we are to educate, mentor and empower them.

My position as the principal along with the great team of educators and mentors of Annur Islamic School is mainly to serve our young leaders. 

Instructors:

Sr. Susan Hassib, Islamic Studies Coordinator .
She teaches Islamic Studies 5th, 6th, 7th & 8th Grades.
She Earned her B.S. in Economics & Political Science with honors from Cairo University, Egypt.
She gained administrative experience from working with Mercedes Benz in Germany, Oberoi Hotels, and the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) within the United Nations in Cairo, Egypt.
Since 1983 she has been teaching Islamic Studies and Qur’an at weekend schools within the Capital region. She joined AnNur Islamic School as an Islamic Studies teacher in 1999.
After attending many Islamic conferences, seminars, and workshops she gained teaching experience which helped AIS to host several successful programs such as Spiritual night, Charity drive, the yearly Hajj performance, the Islamic Studies competition, the International Cultural Day and many more.
Her goal is to help the students develop a strong Muslim identity based on the Qur’an and Sunnah of Rasulullah (SAW) and be always conscious of Allah in their daily life to earn the pleasure of Allah. email

MS. Katelyn Loughman:  graduated from Saint Rose in 2011 with a bachelors degree in Adolescence Education with a concentration in English. In 2014 she received her masters degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from the University at Albany. Katelyn has taught at Annur Islamic School for three years.

This year Katelyn teaches seventh and eighth grade English Language Arts, ninth through eleventh grade English, and high school level Global Studies and American History.

Mrs. Zabine Mall:  She has Masters in Educational Psychology and Statistics, I am a NYS certified teacher in Elementary Education.I have about 20 years of experience teaching, this is my second year at Annur Islamic School. It is a great place to work. I would like to see the school grow, she is a homeroom teacher for first grade.

Teacher Assistant for Kindergarten, She has Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from India, she has been working in Annur Islamic School for the past 8 years as Teacher Assistant in Kindergarten. Personal As a teacher assistant, I take great pride in teaching Islamic Studies for my kindergarten students which includes basic concepts of Islam such as the daily 5 prayers and Memorization of Basic Duas

Mrs. Lubna Ismail-Nazir teaching Islamic Studies for 1st and 2nd Grade and 5th-8th Grades Tarbiya:  is a Graduate of Siena College with a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology. She has worked for HRI and NYSDOH for 3 years and has also taught at ICCD Weekend School for 3 years. email

Teaching Responsibilities Summary:
I have joined AIS as Math faculty. In 2015-16, I’m responsible for teaching Math to 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades, algebra 1 (9th grade) and geometry (10th and 11th grades). I also worked at AIS for the summer session 2015. I taught Trigonometry and Astronomy (High School) and Math (7th grade). Before that I worked (2007-2014) at University at Albany-SUNY as an adjunct lecturer and also as a teaching assistant. At SUNY, I taught algebra-based and calculus based mechanics and electricity and magnetism. I also taught an upper level undergraduate course (Waves). In 2005-06, I worked at Hazara University Mansehra, KP, Pakistan. I taught master level physics courses (Quantum Mechanics, Methods of Mathematical Physics, and Statistical Physics).

MS. Ashley Richichi:

She has advanced degree Communications in Technology with a concentration in graphic design.I have been at Annur Islamic School for two years. I have worked in Calcutta,India at Daya Don Orphanage were I helped children affected by learning disabilities with reading, writing and math. I have also spent a year at Oak Hill School which serves as an alternative learning environment for children with emotional disabilities. My mission is to use the skills and experiences gained from my work experiences, formal education and humanitarian efforts in third world countries, to help this school achieve its own mission.

Dr. Ismail A. Foraida:

I have been graduated in civil engineering (B.Sc., Master, Ph.D.) and worked as a staff member in the faculty of engineering in Egypt and Kuwait. I have been graduated also in Arabic language and tajweed, then have been obtained ( Ijaza ) in ten recitations of holy Quraan.
Experience in both branches was to teach the adult people most of time, except few time in teaching tajweed for small ages persons. The good teacher must be patient and know how to offer the knowledges to students in easy shapes. The experience also is important to know the different levels of the students.
