Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and dynamic Upper Elementary Teacher to provide high-quality instruction in English Language Arts (ELA) and Social Studies for students in grades 3 through 6. The ideal candidate is passionate about fostering strong literacy skills, cultivating critical thinking, and inspiring a lifelong appreciation for reading, writing, and history. This position emphasizes the development of reading fluency, comprehension, and analytical skills, alongside structured writing instruction and meaningful engagement with historical content, including primary source materials.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging, effective lessons in ELA and Social Studies for upper elementary students (grades 3–6).
  • Develop students’ reading fluency and comprehension through differentiated instruction and targeted strategies.
  • Teach paragraph and essay writing, guiding students through the writing process from drafting to revision.
  • Facilitate analysis of texts, including literature and primary/secondary historical sources.
  • Align all instruction with Next Generation ELA standards and the New York State Social Studies Framework.
  • Create a classroom environment that promotes curiosity, critical thinking, and academic excellence.
  • Use a variety of instructional methods and materials to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Assess student progress regularly and adjust instruction to support growth and achievement.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues regarding academic progress and classroom expectations.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Valid teaching certification appropriate for elementary education (or ability to obtain).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ELA instruction, literacy development, and social studies content.
  • Experience working with upper elementary students is preferred.

This role focuses on building strong foundations in reading, writing, and language development while fostering a lifelong love of learning. The ideal candidate is passionate about early literacy and skilled in creating engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons aligned with Next Generation ELA standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver effective, engaging ELA instruction for students in grades K–2
  • Develop lesson plans that align with Next Generation ELA standards and support foundational literacy skills
  • Teach early reading skills including phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension
  • Guide students in developing writing skills, from early letter formation to sentence and paragraph development
  • Foster language development through speaking, listening, and interactive activities
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages curiosity and a love of reading
  • Assess student progress regularly and adjust instruction to meet individual learning needs
  • Maintain clear communication with families and school staff regarding student growth and development

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, or a related field (teaching certification preferred)
  • Experience teaching early elementary students (K–2), particularly in literacy instruction
